Population censuses in Germany
1950
In 1950, 50.8 million people were counted in the newly founded Federal Republic of Germany: 23.7 million men and 27.1 million women. The catalogue of questions also touched upon a number of topics reflecting contemporary history. For instance, the number of expellees and refugees was determined. In the GDR, 18.4 million inhabitants were counted on 13 September 1950.
