Population censuses in Germany

1961

1961

On 6 June 1961, there were 56.6 million people in the Federal Republic of Germany. The decline in the population, which was mainly due to war, contrasted with a population surplus in other parts of the world. Asia, Africa and South America had problems feeding the population. New figures were needed: 1959 - 1961 was "World Census time".
