Population censuses in Germany
1970
On 27 May 1970, there were 61.0 million inhabitants in the Federal Republic of Germany. Education was a central topic, therefore the census aimed to obtain information on the demand for people with a university degree and skilled workers. Until 1970, Germany employed punch card technology, which had been used for the first time in the US census of 1880.
