The 1939 Population Census

1939

On 19 May 1939, shortly before the outbreak of World War II, the second and last population census was conducted under National Socialist rule. To analyse the role official statistics played at the time, a study commissioned by the Federal Statistical Office was published in 2001. It is entitled "Volkszählungen im Nationalsozialismus" (Population censuses under National Socialist rule) and available only in German. More...
